As cigarettes are teeming with dangerous bacteria

American and French scientists discovered that a commercially available cigarettes contaminated with many bacteria, including those causing disease in humans.
Several previous studies showed the presence of cigarettes of various synthetic additives, heavy metals and other chemical pollutants, hazardous to human health, the campaign "MEDnovosti with reference to PhysOrg. However, microbiological testing of tobacco products has not yet been conducted.
Scientists from the University of Maryland and Elite High School Lyons estimated the total content of the microbial genetic material in the four common varieties of cigarettes through the analysis of bacterial ribosomal RNA cloning and diagnostic DNA sequencing.
In all samples of tobacco products was found a wide range of potentially dangerous bacteria, related to the amount to 15 classes of microorganisms. The most common species of the genera Acinetobacter, Bacillus, Burkholderia, Clostridium, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas and Serratia, which may cause infections of various organs. They were discovered more than 90% of the samples.
Several less determined potentially pathogenic bacteria belonging to the genera Campylobacter, Enterococcus, Proteus and Staphylococcus. Essential difference between the microbial composition of different types of cigarettes were found.
"We assumed that cigarettes contaminated with germs, but did not think that would find such a number of pathogenic bacteria", - said one of the researchers Amy Sapkota.
Scientists stressed that the influence of the received data on public health is not valued - this requires further study.
Previously, scientists have found that intestinal bacteria are necessary for the development of the immune system - immune system cells mature, "communicating" with the bacteria through the exchange of specific molecules. In the intestines of humans and animals inhabit several hundred species of microorganisms, many of which contribute to digestion - with their help, some nutrients are digested and synthesized a number of vitamins.
